Agartala, 10th June 2025:    Acting on a confidential tip, forest officials launched an operation leading to the seizure of a substantial quantity of illegally transported timber.

According to a forest department official, intelligence suggested that illegally sourced timber was being transported via NH-8 from Kumarghat. Acting on this information, a team led by forest officer Supriyo Debnath took position in Chamtila, Panisagar subdivision, waiting to intercept the vehicle.

At around 5 AM, a Bolero truck bearing registration number TR05F1590, loaded with timber, entered the Chamtila area. When signaled to stop, the driver accelerated in an attempt to flee. Forest officials immediately pursued the vehicle. The chase continued until the truck reached Nowagang Bazaar in the Bagbasa police station area, where forest officials strategically blocked its path, successfully seizing the vehicle and its illegal cargo. However, the driver managed to escape, officials confirmed.

The seized vehicle contained 60 feet of illegally procured timber with an estimated market value of several lakhs. The timber and the truck were transported to the Panisagar Forest Beat Office for further legal action.
