Agartala, 10th June 2025: A formal complaint has been filed with Tripura Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha by a concerned citizen regarding alleged disparities in the admission process at Golden Valley School, North Tripura.
Dated June 9, 2025, the letter highlights concerns over the selection criteria for Class 11 admissions suggesting a bias against English-medium students despite their proficiency. According to the complaint, the school admitted students for the 2025 academic year based on a merit-based CBSE process, with students securing an average of 89.10% in the Madhyamik examination. However, only 10% of admitted students reportedly came from English-medium schools, despite achieving English scores of 70, whereas the majority hailed from regional language schools. The letter argues that this practice unfairly disadvantages English-medium students.
The citizen’s complaint references key legal frameworks including Section 13 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 (RTE Act), which prohibits discrimination in school admissions and Article 14 of the Constitution of India, which ensures equality before the law. Additionally, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is cited, emphasizing the importance of equitable education policies while maintaining fairness in merit-based admissions.
The complaint urges the Chief Minister’s office to investigate the school’s admission process and implement measures to ensure transparency and fairness. The citizen advocates for aligning the institution’s practices with the RTE Act, Article 14 and NEP 2020 to provide equal opportunities to all students irrespective of their linguistic background. The case has prompted broader discussions on admission practices in Tripura’s schools with stakeholders awaiting a response from the government.
