Agartala, 14th June 2025: CPIM Politburo member and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury today alleged that a section of the ruling party is attempting to create a toxic atmosphere across the state to maintain its hold on power. Chaudhury made these remarks after visiting the residence of Shariful Islam, where he met with the victim’s family and relatives.
Accompanied by former MP Shankar Prasad Dutta, women leader Krishna Rakshit, and party divisional secretary Amal Chakraborty, Chaudhury engaged with Shariful’s family members, expressing solidarity.
Addressing the media personnel later, he stated, “In the past, love affairs between individuals from different communities have existed. This is a normal social occurrence. The case of Shariful Islam is no different, yet certain forces within society have refused to accept this. They instigated unrest by designating a so-called community to act on their behalf.”
The opposition leader further alleged that some ruling party members were fueling confusion and unrest, saying, “A section of the ruling party is deliberately trying to create a toxic atmosphere throughout the state. In reality, they seek to remain in power by manipulating the situation.”
Expressing satisfaction over the arrest of the accused in the case, Chaudhury urged the police administration to ensure strict punishment. He also demanded firm action against those allegedly conspiring to incite discord in the state. “The administration must take decisive steps against those attempting to destabilize society with such conspiracies,” he asserted.
