Agartala, 19th June 2025 : In a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, Dharmanagar police arrested two alleged drug smugglers and seized a large consignment of Yaba tablets during a targeted operation on yesterday night.
Acting on a confidential tip-off, police officials launched an operation near the Dharmanagar police station around 8 PM. A high-speed tuk-tuk, bearing registration number TR-05-2482, was intercepted directly in front of the station. Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered 1,800 Yaba tablets, with an estimated black-market value of Rs 9 lakh, as confirmed by police sources.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ashish Chakma (24) and Vishal Chakma (28), both residents of Pecharthal. Notably, police sources informed that one of the suspects is speech-impaired.
According to investigators, the duo was travelling from the Chandrapur area of Dharmanagar towards Pecharthal when they were apprehended. Police had earlier received intelligence regarding their movement and had laid a strategic trap to intercept the tuk-tuk.
The successful operation was carried out under the leadership of Dharmanagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Smriti Kanta Bardhan and OC Suleman Reang, with support from SDPO B. Juring Puiya and DCM T. Mog, who were present during the arrest.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and both individuals are scheduled to be produced before the court on Thursday, police officials confirmed.
