Agartala, 22nd June 2025:A fresh wave of elephant attacks has left residents of Krishnapur and Mungiakami areas under Teliamura subdivision living in constant fear, with many forced to stay awake through the night to protect their homes and lives.
Wee hours of today a herd of wild elephants entered the North Krishnapur area, vandalizing several houses and triggering panic among locals. Residents engaged in a desperate attempt to drive the elephants away, resulting in yet another hand-to-hand struggle for survival. Forest department volunteers rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control after some time.
Elephant incursions have become a recurring nightmare in the Krishnapur and Mungiakami regions. In past years, such incidents have resulted in the loss of both lives and livelihoods. Homes, agricultural fields, and property continue to suffer repeated damage, despite assurances from the administration.
“The elephants are coming every few days, destroying our homes and fields. But we are yet to receive even a rupee in compensation or any proper relief from the government,” said a distressed local resident.
Villagers allege that although the administration has repeatedly promised to take action, there has been no effective solution to the growing conflict between humans and wildlife in the region.
Locals are now demanding immediate intervention from the government, including proper compensation for losses and sustainable measures to prevent further elephant incursions, such as early warning systems, reinforced barriers, and safe migration corridors for the animals.
