Agartala, 28th June 2025 : Sunil Gangopadhyay’s timeless poem, “Keu Kotha Rakheni” (No One Kept Their Word), speaks of broken promises. However, there are exceptions, and the Tripura Santiniketan Medical College led by President Malay Pit is proving to be one such case.
After successfully establishing the Tripura Santiniketan Medical College, Pit has now unveiled plans to develop an AYUSH center with the support of the state government. This center will focus on the study, practice, and research of alternative medicine systems such as Ayurveda, Homeopathy and Yoga.
When the Tripura Santiniketan Medical College was being built in Ranir Khamar, near Agartala, Peet announced that MBBS courses would commence from the 2024-25 academic year. This announcement surprised and, for many, seemed unbelievable, dismissed as mere rhetoric.
Yet, Pit has turned this seemingly impossible feat into a reality. Not only did the college secure the necessary permissions from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to start MBBS courses within the stipulated timeframe, but it has also set a remarkable record across India and the continent. In its very first academic year, Tripura Santiniketan Medical College admitted students from 21 states across the country, achieving an unprecedented accomplishment in the field of medical education. This success has naturally energized the health and education sectors.
With the state government’s collaboration, construction has already begun on a 650-bed hospital, which will eventually expand into an 1100-bed super-specialty facility.
Furthering this developmental momentum, President of Tripura Santiniketan Medical College (TSMC) Malay Pit announced today that an AYUSH center will be established adjacent to the medical college, with the support and consensus of the state government.
Speaking to students at the college today, he revealed that postgraduate courses would also be introduced soon at Tripura Santiniketan Medical College. Similarly, the AYUSH center, focusing on alternative medicine like Homeopathy, Ayurveda and Yoga for study, research and practice, will be developed outside the main campus, again with the state government’s agreement and cooperation.
In his address, Pit also emphasized the importance of a balanced lifestyle for maintaining good health. He further announced several positive initiatives aimed at developing Tripura’s human resources.
