Agartala, 30th June 2025: In a major crackdown on the illegal drug trade, Tripura Police on Monday seized narcotics worth over ₹1.5 crore from multiple locations across the state, arresting six individuals in the process.
In the first operation, acting on a tip-off, police in Kamalpur sub-division of Dhalai district intercepted a truck bearing a West Bengal number plate in the early hours of the day. During the search, officials recovered 310 kilograms of dry cannabis packed in 31 packets. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is around ₹1.5 crore. One person, identified as Rabi Kumar from Bihar, was taken into custody.
In a separate operation, East Agartala Police launched a raid in the Lal Matia area of Maharajganj Market following specific intelligence inputs. Four alleged drug peddlers—Rajib Roy, Mithun Das, Rahul Roy, and Bimal Bardhan—were apprehended. Police seized 1,200 small vials of brown sugar, ₹7,000 in cash, a mobile phone, a scooty, and a motorcycle. The estimated value of the seized brown sugar is over ₹1.5 lakh.
Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Debprasad Roy said the arrested individuals will be produced before the court and police will seek their remand. Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, Rana Chatterjee, confirmed that the arrests were made based on credible inputs regarding drug peddling activities in the area.
In another significant operation, Tripura Police conducted a pre-dawn raid at the residence of Sirajul Islam in Ghaniamara, under Bishalgarh sub-division of Sepahijala district. The raid resulted in the seizure of 170 kilograms of dry cannabis. Islam was arrested on the spot, and a case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Bishalgarh Police Station.
Tripura Police continue to intensify their anti-narcotics drive across the state as part of efforts to curb drug trafficking.
