Agartala, 2nd July 2025: A young man sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle accident early this morning near the Deendayal Chowmuhani area in Kamalasagar.
According to official reports, the incident took place when the rider identified as Nur Alam Mia reportedly lost control of his bike on the road adjacent to the Chowmuhani and crashed. The impact of the accident caused the rider to be thrown onto the roadway.
Hearing a loud noise, local residents rushed to the scene and quickly alerted emergency services. Firefighters responded promptly and rescued the injured motorcyclist.
Nur Alam Mia was transported to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital for medical treatment. His condition is currently unknown.
A firefighter at the scene confirmed that quick coordination between locals and emergency personnel was key in ensuring swift medical attention for the injured. Illegal timber worth ₹1 lakh seized at Uttar Hurua in North Tripura district
Agartala, July 02: In a major crackdown on illegal timber smuggling, the Forest Department of North Tripura on Wednesday seized a vehicle loaded with high-value teak wood estimated to be worth ₹1 lakh. The operation was carried out in the Uttar Hurua area under the Bagbasa assembly constituency.
Acting on a tip-off, forest officials launched a pre-dawn operation and intercepted a Bolero vehicle suspected of transporting smuggled timber. When officials signaled the vehicle to stop near Kalachhara Block Road around 5:30 AM, the driver attempted to flee at high speed. The vehicle eventually overturned in Uttar Hurua, allowing the driver to escape.
Upon inspection, officials recovered approximately 70 feet of teak wood logs of various sizes. The team transporting the seized timber back to the district forest office was led by Divisional Forest Officer Ashok Kumar, Ranger Supriya Debnath, and beat officers Ashutosh Malakar (Churaibari) and Abhijit Das (Lalsora), among others.
DFO Ashok Kumar stated that the seized timber is suspected to have originated from protected forest land and was being stockpiled illegally, likely for smuggling into Assam. While no arrests have been made so far, a case has been registered under forest laws, and an investigation is underway.
“We are committed to thwarting all attempts at illegal timber trade,” Kumar affirmed, emphasizing the department’s vigilance and readiness to counter forest crimes.
