2.89 acres land Acquisition Approved for Howrah Embankment Extension Project in West Tripura

Date:

Agartala,  12th Juner 2026:  The Government of Tripura has approved the acquisition of 2.894 acres of land in Agartala and Pratapgarh areas under West Tripura district for the extension and strengthening of the Howrah River embankment along the river’s right bank, stretching from Adarsha Pally to the Pratapgarh RCC Bridge.

According to a statement shared by the West District Magistrate on social media, an independent multidisciplinary Expert Group constituted under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RFCTLARR) Act, 2013, examined the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) Report and recommended the project after evaluating its benefits and impacts.

The Expert Group observed that the project is crucial for strengthening flood protection infrastructure in the area. It noted that the embankment extension will help reduce flood-related disruptions, enhance public safety, and provide long-term benefits to residents as well as the broader population of the state.

The assessment further highlighted that the project is expected to facilitate planned urban development in surrounding localities. While acknowledging the social impacts associated with land acquisition, the Expert Group stated that affected landowners would be entitled to compensation and rehabilitation benefits in accordance with the provisions of the RFCTLARR Act, 2013.

Concluding its evaluation, the Expert Group found that the overall public benefits of the project significantly outweigh the identified social impacts.

The District Administration has informed that copies of the Government’s decision, the Social Impact Assessment Report, and the Evaluation Report have been displayed at designated government offices and public notice boards for the information of all stakeholders.

The project is expected to play a significant role in strengthening flood management measures and supporting sustainable urban growth in Agartala and adjoining areas.
