Agartala, 22nd August 2025: Unakoti district witnessed high drama late Thursday night after police recovered a huge amount of unaccounted cash in Kailashahar, sparking widespread sensation across the subdivision.
Around 11 PM, police along with TSR personnel conducted a special naka checking at Chinibagan point, acting on a tip-off, and seized ₹20,63,100 in cash from a black Maruti Suzuki S-Presso (registration no. TR-05-E-0654) heading towards Dharmanagar from Kailashahar. The bundles of cash were found stuffed inside bags and hidden compartments of the vehicle.
Two youths were detained on the spot—Sourav Sinha (22), son of Sukhmani Sinha, resident of Damchhara Narendra Nagar Ward No. 2, and Arpan Nandi (32), son of Ganesh Nandi, also from Damchhara.
Speaking on the operation, Kailashahar Police Station OC Tapas Malakar said, “Based on secret information, we intercepted the vehicle at Chinibagan naka point. Upon search, we recovered cash amounting to ₹20,63,100. Both individuals have been taken into custody and further interrogation is underway. Necessary legal procedures are being followed.”
The seized cash was officially counted in the presence of DCM Rajib Dutta using an electronic machine. Both the money and the arrested youths are currently under police custody at Kailashahar police station.
Additional District Superintendent of Police D. Darlong, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jayanta Karmakar, and several senior officials were present during the operation. The incident has created widespread sensation across Kailashahar subdivision as investigations continue into the source and destination of the seized cash.
