Agartala, 26th July 2026: In a major anti-narcotics operation, police recovered 211 kilograms of dry ganja hidden underground in a dense forest under Thalibari ADC Village within the jurisdiction of Jatrapur Police Station in Sepahijala district. A cannabis nursery was also destroyed during the operation.
Acting on a tip-off from the State Intelligence Branch, a large team comprising personnel from the Special Task Force (STF) and Jatrapur Police, led by Officer-in-Charge Partha Nath Bhowmik, launched a search operation in the forest on Sunday morning. The operation continued for nearly three to four hours.
During the search, police recovered 211 kg of dry ganja concealed inside seven drums buried beneath the ground. The seized contraband was later brought to Jatrapur Police Station.
Speaking to the media, OC Partha Nath Bhowmik said no arrests could be made as the contraband had been hidden deep inside the forest and no suspects were present at the spot. He said the ganja had been buried with the intention of smuggling it to different locations at a later stage, but the police operation foiled the traffickers’ plans before they could move the consignment.
The estimated market value of the seized ganja is around ₹50 lakh, the OC added.
Police have launched further investigation to identify and apprehend those involved in the illegal drug trafficking network.
