Agartala, 26th July 2026: Allegations of selling expired medicine have surfaced against a medical shop at Laltila under North Ramchandraghat in Tripura’s Khowai district, raising concerns over the monitoring of pharmacies in the area.
According to the complaint, a resident of Kaminipara purchased medicine for his child from Maa Kali Medical Hall. After the child consumed the medicine, the child’s health reportedly deteriorated further. On checking the packaging, the family allegedly found that the medicine had expired in December 2025.
The customer then approached the shop regarding the issue.
Local residents alleged that the lack of regular inspections has led to the operation of unregulated and illegal medical shops in several areas. They also questioned the role of the Drug Inspector, alleging inadequate monitoring and enforcement.
The incident has sparked public outrage, with residents asking how a medicine that expired nearly eight months ago could still be available for sale. They questioned whether the shop had been inspected in recent months or whether there had been negligence in regulatory oversight.
Locals have demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the incident and sought legal action against Tapas Kumar Deb, who has been named in the complaint. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
