28 Bangladeshi Nationals, 2 Rohingya Arrested in Tripura

Agartala, 28th July 2024:    In a coordinated effort by the BSF and Tripura Police, 28 Bangladeshi nationals and 2 Rohingya individuals were arrested in separate operations at two different locations in Tripura.

Agartala Railway Station Officer-in-Charge, Tapas Das, reported that early Sunday morning, authorities received information about a significant number of Bangladeshi nationals arriving at Agartala Railway Station. Acting on this intelligence, the BSF, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and other agencies cordoned off the railway station, blocking all entry and exit points. Initially, 10 individuals were detained on suspicion, followed by another 7 by the BSF, and eventually, a total of 23 Bangladeshi nationals were detained. A case has been registered against them for illegal entry into Tripura and attempting to travel to Chennai. They have been presented before the court for police remand.

In another operation, a joint Mobile Check Post (MCP) of the BSF and Tripura Police in the Amtali area of West District apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals, including one transgender person. The detainees were identified as MD Tamim Hussain (18), Biplab Banik (53), Utpala Banik (42), Nijhar Banik (17), and Juli Pal (transgender, 18).

Additionally, in a separate incident, BSF troops in the bordering area of BOP Tillabazar in North Tripura apprehended two Rohingya migrants attempting to enter Indian territory. The information provided by these individuals led to the apprehension of a suspected tout. Questioning is ongoing. The BSF has increased vigilance and operations along the border to prevent further infiltration attempts.
