Agartala, 28th July 2024: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu on Saturday night issued an warrant appointing Tripura’s former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma as the Governor of Telangana. In a press communique, the good office of Rashtrapati Bhawan made this announcement.
President Droupadi Murmu made multiple gubernatorial appointments in addition to Telangana. Jishnu Dev Varma, a multifaceted individual with a background as a member of the royal family, a successful businessman, politician, writer, poet, and orator, has now become the first person from Tripura to hold a governor position. In his political career, he served as Deputy Chief Minister and held the crucial Finance portfolio in Tripura’s first BJP government.
Other key appointments include Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde as Governor of Rajasthan, Om Prakash Mathur as Governor of Sikkim, Santosh Kumar Gangwar as Governor of Jharkhand, Ramen Deka as Governor of Chhattisgarh, C.H. Vijayashankar as Governor of Meghalaya, and C.P. Radhakrishnan as Governor of Maharashtra, who previously held additional charge of Telangana. Gulab Chand Kataria, the former Governor of Assam, has been appointed as Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Lakshman Prasad Acharya, previously Governor of Sikkim, will now serve as Governor of Assam with additional responsibilities as Governor of Manipur.
The President also accepted the resignation of Banwarilal Purohit as Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. These appointments will take effect from the dates the new appointees assume their respective offices.
