29.8 Kg Ganja Seized in Kamalpur; Driver Detained

Agartala, 2nd October 2026 :  In a major success in its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking, Kamalpur police seized 29.8 kg of ganja from a Ford private vehicle at the Durgachoumuhani naka point on Friday. The driver of the vehicle was detained in connection with the seizure.

According to police sources, the vehicle was travelling towards Assam from the Sidai-Mohanpur side when police intercepted it at the Durgachoumuhani naka point based on specific information about the suspected transportation of narcotics.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 29.8 kg of ganja, following which the vehicle was also seized.

Police said that the driver was the only person inside the vehicle at the time of the interception. He is currently being questioned to determine the source of the contraband and its intended destination.

Kamalpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Saurav Sen was present during the operation, while Sub-Inspector Kapil Pal briefed the media about the seizure.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and launched an investigation. Officials are also examining whether others were involved in the suspected inter-state drug trafficking network.

The seizure at the Durgachoumuhani naka point highlights the police’s continued efforts to curb the transportation of narcotics through Tripura and prevent their movement across state borders.
