Agartala, 29th July 2024: In the lead-up to the three-tier Panchayat elections in Tripura, the ruling BJP party has accused CPIM-backed individuals of vandalizing their campaign decorations. According to BJP officials, campaign materials for heavyweight candidates including Biswajit Ghosh (4th Zilla Parishad), Mamani Roy (2nd seat), and Raja Dhar (Panchayat Samiti) were damaged under the cover of night.
BJP state General Secretary Amit Rakshit condemned the CPIM during a party function on Sunday, stating that such actions undermine democratic principles. “Despite democracy allowing opponents to field candidates freely, CPM is sabotaging the electoral process by destroying our campaign materials,” Rakshit remarked.
In response to the alleged vandalism, the BJP has filed a formal complaint with the Churaibari police station. The complaint details the destruction of campaign decorations in various areas of the Kadamtala block, further escalating tensions between the rival parties as the elections approach.
