Agartala, 21st April 2025: A heavy rainstorm that struck Tripura in the early hours of April 21st has caused significant damage, with 445 houses either fully, partially, or severely affected. Additionally, two individuals were injured after a roof collapsed on them. The storm also brought down numerous electric poles and uprooted several trees across the state.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, the Mohanpur Sub-division in West District suffered the worst damage, followed by Karbook in Gomati District. In Mohanpur, 261 houses were damaged, including 65 severely and 196 partially. Karbook reported 158 houses damaged, with 26 fully, 83 severely, and 49 partially affected.
Other areas impacted included Sonamura in Sepahijala District, where 7 houses were damaged, and Jirania in West District, with 3 houses sustaining partial damage. In Teliamura, Khowai District, 16 houses were affected.
In Karbook, Gomati District, two people were injured, 14 trees were uprooted, and 22 electric poles were damaged. Udaipur Sub-division also reported significant damage, with 10 trees uprooted and 27 electric poles downed.
The State Emergency Operation Centre also noted that the major rivers, including the Howrah, Gomati, Muhuri, and Feni, are currently flowing below flood levels. A yellow alert has been issued for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30–40 KMPH expected in one or two places across the remaining districts of Tripura.
