5 new degree colleges starting from current academic session: EM Ratanlal Nath

Agartala, September 16, 2022: Education minister Ratanlal Nath on Friday said that five new degree colleges will be opened in the state run by government and PPP model. Out of this, 3 will be government and 2 PPP model colleges. Initiatives have been taken to start these colleges from the current academic year.

Speaking to reporters at Civil Secretariat here on Friday afternoon, Nath said, MoUs were signed by the state government with two private organizations, namely Anandnagar Welfare Society of Howrah, West Bengal and Downtown Trust of Assam, to open new degree colleges in the state on PPP model.

The Education Minister said that the Anandnagar Welfare Society of Howrah, West Bengal expressed its desire to open new degree colleges in Jirania and Kakraban from the current academic year. In the meantime, a law college will be opened in Jiraniya and recognition has already been received from Tripura University for it. He said that students will have the opportunity to do 5-year BA LLB integrated program, 5-year BCom LLB integrated program and 3-year LLB course at Jiraniya Law College.

The minister also said that a general degree college will also be opened in Kakraban. Notification has already been issued for the admission of students. He said that a general degree college will be opened in Old Agartala as well. This college is starting from the current academic year. The Education Minister said that an initiative has been taken to start a degree college with 100 seats in Panisagar from the current academic year. Bengali, English, History, Political Science, Education, Sanskrit, Sociology subjects will be in this college.

The education minister said that a fully government English medium college with 50 seats in the old diet college is also starting from the current academic year. This English medium college is named Sri Aurobindo General English Medium Degree College. There will be Bengali, English, Political Science, History, Economics, Sociology subjects.

In the press conference, regarding the salary discrimination of 461 non-teaching staff including BRP and CRP under Sarva Shiksha, the Education Minister said that from now on their average salary will be increased by around 4 to 5 thousand taka. They will also be given an increment annually. At the same time 422 block resource persons and 246 cluster resource persons will be appointed.
