Agartala, July 29, 2023: In Dhanpur, the rainy season has brought about an alarming spread of dengue, with the number of patients steadily increasing. The health department has been undertaking urgent wartime activities to combat the outbreak. The first positive case was identified on July 22, across the barbed wire fence in neighboring Bangladesh. Initially, doctors misdiagnosed many patients with typhoid, as they presented with fever.
However, when the patients’ conditions failed to improve with typhoid treatment, it became apparent that they were suffering from dengue. As of now, there are numerous dengue patients in different areas of the Dhanpur assembly constituency, with some receiving treatment at hospitals while others are recovering at home. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Debashish Das reported a total of 75 identified cases, up from 62 on the previous day, Friday.
The administration has been proactive, keeping the affected patients under close observation. They have also launched extensive awareness programs, with representative teams visiting households daily to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds such as stagnant water. Residents are being advised to remain vigilant and are educated about the importance of boosting their immune systems through a nutritious diet with vitamins.
Volunteers are actively supporting the health administration in their efforts. To curb the spread of the disease, all fever patients visiting hospitals or doctors’ chambers must undergo testing before receiving treatment. The situation has improved, although adult women seem to be predominantly affected, likely due to evening outdoor activities exposing them to mosquitoes.
Despite the challenges, Dr. Debashish Das remains optimistic that the situation will soon return to normalcy with collective efforts and awareness. As the outbreak persists, the community remains committed to containing the dengue outbreak and protecting public health.
