Agartala, September 04, 2023: Barely few hours are left for the commencement of by-election in two assembly constituencies- 20-Boxanagar and 23-Dhanpur under Sonamura sub-division in Sepahijala district where a total of 90,074 electorates will exercise their franchise on Tuesday.
Altogether, nine candidates submitted their nomination papers comprising of two each from BJP and CPIM while rest five were independent candidates, but one independent candidate’s nomination has been rejected after scrutiny. Hence, four each in Dhanpur and Boxanagar constituencies are contesting in this election.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Puneet Agarwal informed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced by-election on August 8 last with the imposition of MCC. The date of polling is on September 05 and counting on September 08 next.
A total of 95, 075 voters including 48,110 male, 45,124 female, 160 service, 1217 are 80+ voters and 463 are PwD voters will exercise their franchise on Tuesday next. There are 51 polling stations in Boxanagar and 59 are in Dhanpur assembly constituencies. The Central-Armed Police Force (CAPF) has already being imposed in both the constituencies while section 144 has been clamped and BSF were asked to intensified their patrolling in the bordering areas to thwart infiltrations, unauthorized movement.
It is worthy to mention here that the by-poll to the Boxanagar assembly constituency was necessitated due to the death of CPIM MLA Samsul Haque while union minister of state Pratima Bhoumik’s resignation as the MLA of Dhanpur necessitated the by-election to that seat.
