Agartala, 29th May 2026: MLA from Matabari constituency, Abhishek Debroy, has officially taken over as the new president of the Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The leadership change was marked by a formal ceremony held at the party’s state headquarters on Friday.
The event was attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and outgoing state BJP president and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, who handed over organisational responsibilities to Debroy. After assuming office, Debroy said his key priority would be to expand the party’s reach at the grassroots level and ensure that its ideology and programmes connect with workers across all sections of the organisation. He stressed the need to strengthen the party from the ground up through consistent engagement.
He further stated that BJP’s core values and objectives should effectively reach even the most marginalised sections of society. Calling himself a young and energetic leader, Debroy expressed his intention to work closely with both senior leaders and grassroots workers. He said he respects the experience of senior members while also encouraging greater participation from younger cadres.
He also sought continued cooperation from party colleagues as he begins his tenure. When asked about potential challenges in his new role, Debroy said he does not foresee immediate difficulties, noting that he has long worked as a grassroots worker. He added that any future challenges would be addressed collectively through organisational effort.
