Agartala, 2nd April 2025: In a step towards strengthening breast cancer diagnosis in Tripura, the Agartala Government Medical College and GB Pant Hospital have set up a special committee to facilitate the installation of a newly acquired mammography machine.
Despite already housing advanced diagnostic tools like breast sonography, breast MRI, and breast CT scan, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Center in Agartala is now preparing to integrate mammography into its screening capabilities. An official from GB Pant Hospital confirmed that while the machine has been procured, it has yet to be officially handed over to the hospital. To ensure smooth installation and operation, a dedicated committee has been formed. “Once installed, this machine will further enhance our capacity for early breast cancer detection,” the official said.
The cancer hospital is also equipped with a COBALT unit, two Linear Accelerators, and a Brachytherapy machine for radiotherapy. However, one of the Linear Accelerators recently malfunctioned and is currently under repair. To ensure uninterrupted treatment, the hospital has introduced dual shifts using the remaining operational machine.
With medical officers stationed across all departments, including OPD and OT, the hospital continues to provide comprehensive cancer care as per the roster, ensuring that patient services remain unaffected.
