Agartala, 2nd April 2025: . Former Tripura Chief Minister and CPI(M) Politburo member Manik Sarkar emphasized the party’s commitment to strengthening its ideological and organizational base to counter the ruling BJP-RSS alliance. Speaking at the 24th Congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Madurai, Sarkar outlined a roadmap for widening democratic struggles and mobilizing marginalized communities.
Sarkar underscored the importance of enhancing the independent strength of the party by expanding its political, ideological, and organizational activities. He stressed that combating Hindutva ideology and communal forces must remain at the center of the party’s strategy.
“The 24th Congress will focus on intensifying struggles of the working class, peasantry, urban and rural poor while championing the rights of Dalits, Adivasis, women, and minorities,” Sarkar said.
He also linked the party’s fight against Hindutva politics to a larger global struggle, citing the growing assertiveness of American imperialism under Donald Trump’s presidency. According to Sarkar, the past eleven years of Modi’s rule have led to an unparalleled consolidation of the Hindutva-authoritarian regime, where corporate interests and the BJP-RSS nexus have eroded democracy, secularism, and federalism.
Highlighting economic distress, Sarkar criticized the government for rising unemployment, inflation, and agrarian crises, which he said have pushed ordinary citizens into hardship. He accused the ruling establishment of systematically persecuting minorities and turning them into second-class citizens.
Despite these challenges, Sarkar noted that resistance against the Hindutva-corporate nexus continues. He praised the workers of the Samsung India factory in Kancheepuram for successfully staging a 38-day strike despite facing repression.
“A strong party organization is essential to mobilize millions of working people and youth,” he stated, advocating for CPI(M) to have a robust presence in workplaces and residential areas to connect with the masses and launch struggles. He concluded by calling for the 24th Congress to mark a crucial step in building a Left and democratic alternative to counter right-wing forces and corporate influence in Indian politics.
