Agartala gears up for grand ‘Mayer Gaman’ immersion carnival tomorrow

Agartala, 3rd October 2025 : The city of Agartala is set to host the fourth edition of the annual “Mayer Gaman” (Durga Immersion Carnival) this Saturday, continuing a tradition that began four years ago. Initially launched in front of City Centre, the event has since shifted its starting point to Maharani Tulshibati Girls’ School from last year.

Director of the ICA department Bimbisar Bhattacharjee today visited the venue to oversee preparations. He confirmed that Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will inaugurate the carnival at 5 PM tomorrow accompanied by other cabinet ministers, Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil, MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Chief Secretary and DGP.

This year, idols from nine zones across Agartala will participate in the grand procession. The route begins at Maharani Tulshibati Girls’ School and will pass through Kamal Chowmuhani, Post Office Chowmuhani, Mela Ground, and Battala before culminating at Dashami Ghat. So far, 40 puja committees have registered to join the procession.

To ensure smooth conduct, the police administration issued traffic advisories today. From 2 PM on Saturday until the end of the immersion procession, major roads including Lions Gate (Ujjayanta Palace), Jackson Gate, Kamal Chowmuhani, Surya Chowmuhani, Post Office Chowmuhani, Paradise Chowmuhani, and Battala to Dashami Ghat will be reserved exclusively for idol immersion.

Vehicular movement will be restricted across several key junctions and roads, including Nagrezala, Battala, Dashami Ghat, Joypur, Agantuk Club, Joynagar Office Lane, Fire Service Chowmuhani, IGM Chowmuhani, Birendra Club Junction, Gandhi Ghat, RMS Chowmuhani, Orient Chowmuhani, Jackson Gate, Gol Bazar, Old Chowmuhani, Motorcycle Market, Launch Ghat Stand, Ganaraj Chowmuhani, Women’s College, Town Hall, RS Bhavan Crossing, and BK Chowmuhani.

However, special routes have been designated for emergency services and passengers traveling to the airport or railway stations. These include Hapania–AD Nagar–Flyover–IGM–TRTC–BK Chowmuhani–Colonel Chowmuhani–Haradhan Sangha–North Gate–Radhanagar–Murtiprangon Road. Passengers must carry valid tickets or boarding passes, and vehicles must display appropriate stickers.

VIP parking will be available at Ujjayanta Palace premises, while general public parking zones include IGM Chowmuhani, RMS Chowmuhani, Orient Chowmuhani, Jackson Gate Box Culvert, Battala TRTC Complex, under Flyover Pillars 38–42, Gandhi Ghat to Ramakrishna Mission, Gangail Road, and behind East Agartala Police Station.

Meanwhile, this evening, Dashami Ghat witnessed a vibrant immersion ceremony with crowds lining the streets of Battala, Joynagar, and Paradise Chowmuhani to witness the festivities. Most immersions were conducted by traditional households, while clubs are expected to participate on Saturday.

As of this evening, 1,653 idols have been immersed across Tripura out of 2,983 registered pujas. West Tripura leads with 494 immersions out of 772, followed by North Tripura (197/275), Unakoti (119/220), Dhalai (159/258), Khowai (291/397), Sepahijala (134/411), Gomati (137/382), and South Tripura (122/268).

With all preparations in place, Agartala is ready to celebrate the grand carnival of devotion, culture, and community spirit.
