Agartala, 2nd October 2026 : Agartala Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) arrested a 30-year-old youth and seized 25.95 grams of heroin from his possession during a drug-control operation at Agartala Railway Station on Wednesday evening.
Police sources said the operation was conducted at around 5 pm on Platform No. 1 by a GRPS team led by SI Biswajit Das. During the operation, the team intercepted a suspicious youth and carried out a search.
The arrested person was identified as Gautam Pal (30), son of Ajit Pal, a resident of Nagarpara, East Lumding, under Lumding Police Station in Assam’s Hojai district.
According to police, 25.95 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession. The contraband was allegedly concealed inside three soap cases. Police also recovered a smartphone, an Aadhaar card and a black shoulder bag from him.
The seized heroin is estimated to have a black-market value of around Rs 2 lakh, police said.
Following the seizure, Pal was arrested and the narcotics were taken into custody. A case, numbered 2026GRP072, has been registered at Agartala GRPS under Sections 21(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act.
The GRPS has initiated an investigation to ascertain the source of the contraband and determine whether other persons are linked to the alleged drug trafficking operation.
