Agartala, 3rd June 2025:  Marking the 7th World Bicycle Day, Dr. Shailesh Yadav, CEO of Agartala Smart City Mission, announced that Agartala city is set to create dedicated lanes for cyclists—despite the challenge of narrow roads.

Speaking at a bicycle rally held in the capital, Dr. Yadav highlighted the transformative power of cycling for personal health, environmental sustainability, and social equality. “World Bicycle Day is a reminder that cycling is a great equalizer. It’s good for your health, good for the environment, and good for everyone. We should all pledge to reclaim road space—not just for vehicles but for cyclists and pedestrians,” he said.

He further stated, “Under the Agartala Smart City Limited project, we are revamping city infrastructure, including roads. Wherever possible, we are carving out dedicated spaces for bicycles, even in areas with limited road width.” The event was organized by Track and Trail Agartala in collaboration with Agartala Cycle Holic. Dr. Yadav, along with Dr. Bharati Nigam, Assistant Director of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), flagged off the rally and joined the ride, symbolizing their commitment to sustainable urban mobility.

Aligning with the United Nations’ 2025 theme—“Promoting Health, Equity, and Sustainability through Cycling”—the local campaign was dubbed “Agartala Cycloholics on Pedals.”

A total of 42 cyclists, including women, students, professionals, and fitness enthusiasts, took part in the 10–15 km ride across the city. The event also featured an interactive Q&A session led by Gopesh Debnath, the Bicycle Mayor of Agartala, focusing on the significance of cycling in urban development. Trophies were awarded to standout participants, adding a celebratory touch to the city’s growing cycling culture.
