Agartala, 3rd June 2025: For two years, the Thala Bhanga Anganwadi Kendra has been operating without a designated worker, the primary caregiver, due to an apparent lack of action from the Social Welfare and Social Education department. Despite repeated appeals from local representatives and residents, the issue remains unresolved.
The previous worker, Srabani Chakraborty, retired two years ago. Since then, helper Payel Das has shouldered all responsibilities single-handedly, managing around 35 young children at the center. From cooking meals like khichuri to teaching the children, ensuring their transportation and even fetching drinking water from distant homes due to frequent water shortages, Das has been handling a workload far beyond her role.
Despite her dedication, the absence of a new appointment has put immense strain on operations. “I have informed the local panchayat representatives multiple times, yet no action has been taken,” Das stated. Residents echoed her concerns, acknowledging that for two years, no replacement has been made.
Her commitment stands in contrast to cases of negligence often seen in public service. “She treats these children like her own,” one resident remarked, praising Das’s efforts. However, frustration is mounting among locals who demand immediate intervention from authorities.
