AILAJ seeks appointment with Delhi Police Commissioner over alleged racial harassment of Tripura youth

Date:

Agartala, 23rd October 2026 : The All India Lawyers’ Association for Justice (AILAJ), Tripura Unit, has sought an appointment with the Delhi Police Commissioner to submit a deputation over the alleged racial discrimination and harassment of a youth from Tripura by social media content creator Amir Shokeen in Delhi.

In a letter dated October 22, AILAJ Tripura Unit convenor and advocate Mrinmoy Das requested a meeting between October 24 and 31 to raise concerns over the alleged use of racial slurs and derogatory remarks targeting the youth’s physical appearance and regional identity.

The association stated that the incident had triggered serious concern among people in Tripura and other northeastern states, raising questions about dignity, equality and the constitutional rights of citizens from Northeast India.

AILAJ said its objective was to seek a fair investigation and accountability in accordance with the law, without prejudging the guilt of any individual. It urged the Delhi Police Commissioner to grant a suitable date and time for the proposed meeting.
