Agartala, 30th April 2025: Today marks the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, celebrated annually on the third day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Baishakh. This day holds immense cultural and spiritual significance, drawing devotees and businessmen alike to participate in traditional rituals.
As with the first day of Baishakh, the Halkhata Yatra, a ceremony to inaugurate new business accounts, is observed on this day. Temples and shops see a wave of activity, with prayers being offered to deities, invoking prosperity for the year ahead. The Lakshminarayan Temple, in particular, witnessed a large gathering of devotees from early morning, all seeking blessings on this sacred day.
The term “Akshaya,” meaning eternal or indestructible, underlines the day’s importance for embarking on auspicious endeavors, including weddings, housewarmings, and upanayan ceremonies. It is believed that actions performed on Akshaya Tritiya carry an enduring and fruitful legacy. Among the notable customs is the tradition of purchasing gold and silver, symbolizing enduring wealth and fortune.
Legend has it that on this day, Lord Shiva, pleased by Kuber’s penance, granted him immense wealth and prosperity. Devotees honor this narrative by worshipping Kuber, believing that their prayers will bring happiness and abundance to their families. Many businessmen marked the day with Halkhata ceremonies and pujas at the Lakshminarayan Temple, continuing the age-old traditions that define Akshaya Tritiya.
The day’s celebrations combine faith, prosperity, and culture, making it one of the most cherished days in the Hindu calendar.
