Agartala, 1st October 2024: The All India Student Progressive Forum (AISPF) staged a public deputation to protest against the director of the education department, demanding action on their three-point agenda. The forum has warned that they will escalate their efforts and join a larger student youth movement if their demands are not met.
Shubham Acharya, a member of AISP highlighted the Tripura government’s plans to close and merge 511 schools across the state. “The government is also imposing additional fees on schools under the Vidyajyoti scheme, which is severely impacting students,” Acharya stated. He emphasized that a significant number of female students have already dropped out, while others are struggling to continue their education. “This is evident from the declining student numbers in government schools,” he added.
Acharya also pointed out the acute shortage of teachers at all levels in government and aided schools. “In response, we have conducted a mass signature drive involving students, parents, and concerned citizens to support our demands,” he said.
