Allegations of negligence surface at West Ganaki Sub-Health Center

Agartala, 21st January 2025:  Serious allegations of negligence have been leveled against the West Ganaki Sub-Health Center operating under the Chebri Primary Health Center in Khowai Block. Residents and Anganwadi workers claim that Asit Deb, a health worker at the sub-health center has failed to adhere to essential safety and hygiene protocols posing significant risks to the community.

Reports indicate that expired medicines, used needles, bandages, cotton, and other medical waste have been carelessly discarded around the sub-health center premises. These materials, which are supposed to be disposed of in accordance with strict guidelines, have instead been left exposed, creating a hazardous environment. According to standard procedures, used medical items must be buried, while expired medicines are to be destroyed by the primary health center. However, it is alleged that these protocols are being blatantly ignored.

The situation has become particularly concerning for the Anganwadi center located within the same complex. “Our young children are at constant risk due to the negligence of the sub-health center staff. Several children have already been injured by stepping on sharp objects like needles and broken medicine bottles scattered outside,” said an Anganwadi worker, visibly distressed.

Parents of the Anganwadi children have voiced their frustration, alleging repeated incidents of injuries and raising concerns about the potential health hazards. “Despite multiple complaints to the sub-health center staff, no action has been taken,” said one parent. “Our children deserve a safe environment, not one littered with medical waste.”

The Anganwadi workers and helpers have now called for immediate intervention from the Chebri Primary Health Center and the District Health Department. “This level of irresponsibility is unacceptable. We urge the authorities to step in and ensure proper disposal practices are implemented without delay,” an Anganwadi helper remarked.
