Agartala, 19th April 2024: Indranagar High School, located in the capital city, found itself embroiled in controversy on Friday as allegations surfaced regarding the premature closure of polling booths. The incident took place just 15 minutes before the scheduled time of 5 PM.
Reports indicate that voting was underway at booths 37, 38, and 39 when voters raised concerns about being forced to wait in queue, only to find the gates abruptly closed.
Tensions escalated when a group of youth initiated protests outside the polling station. Despite efforts by the in-charge poll worker to maintain order, grievances persisted. According to eyewitnesses, Amar Chandra Saha, the presiding officer of Booth No. 38, allegedly shut the gates between 4:30 to 4:45 PM, purportedly influenced by a polling agent’s suggestion.
After a prolonged dispute, the situation eventually de-escalated, though concerns linger regarding the integrity of the polling process at Indranagar High School. Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the matter to ensure the fairness and transparency of future electoral proceedings.
