Agartala, 19th April 2024: In a display of civic responsibility and political engagement, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury accompanied by his wife exercised his voting rights at the Land Records and Settlement Office here on Friday.
Addressing the media after casting his vote, Minister Chowdhury commended the opposition for their participation in the electoral process. He remarked that those decrying the absence of polling agents are often the very individuals responsible for their removal from polling stations. This statement follows earlier warnings of impending accusations of electoral malpractice as the elections draw nearer.
“The allegations of farce surrounding the election process are nothing new,” stated Minister Chowdhury. He asserted that the elections are progressing peacefully, devoid of any reported incidents of violence. Preemptive measures, including directives to law enforcement agencies, were undertaken to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
Responding to allegations of corruption within the INDI Alliance, the Minister pointed to the confinement of several alliance leaders as evidence of their improper behaviour. He declared the rejection of the INDI Alliance by the electorate, likening it to a sinking boat. In contrast, he championed the rising National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as a beacon of hope, emphasizing its popularity among the populace.
Moreover, Minister Chowdhury raised questions regarding the absence of Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar from the state, leading to the cancellation of his scheduled visit. He contrasted this with the presence of All India Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi’s campaign activities, tricky inconsistencies within the opposition’s narrative.
“These allegations serve as a smokescreen to conceal their own inadequacies,” remarked the Minister, alluding to the opposition’s attempts to deflect attention from their internal challenges.
