Agartala, 29th November 2025: Concerns have surfaced over the construction of a new morgue at South Tripura District Hospital at Santirbazar, undertaken under the state government’s development program. Local residents allege that contractor Raju Datta is carrying out substandard work, which they claim is tarnishing the reputation of MLA Pramod Reang while serving the contractor’s own profit interests.
Villagers and hospital visitors reported visible cracks in the lower walls of the morgue building. Locals informed that the contractor attempted to conceal the damage overnight after learning of media presence, raising further questions about the quality of the construction.
This is not the first time Datta’s work has come under scrutiny. Residents recalled similar complaints during the construction of a paver-block road in the Harijan Colony of Santirbazar, where his work was also deemed below standard. Locals now fear that the weak foundation of the morgue could compromise the safety of the upper structure as well.
Community members and patients have urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that construction quality is maintained in all government projects.
