Agartala, 23rd June 2026: A major controversy has erupted in the Maharanipur area of Teliamura subdivision following allegations of financial irregularities and fraud involving around ₹20 crore. The allegations have been levelled against Jhuma Chowdhury, a Master Bookkeeper associated with the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM).
several affected individuals raised allegations that Jhuma Chowdhury collected large sums of money from people over an extended period by promising attractive returns. It has further been alleged that forged documents carrying the signature of the Block Development Officer (BDO) and official government seals were used in connection with the transactions.
Local sources claimed that money was collected from various individuals and members of self-help groups with assurances of returns between 10 and 15 percent. After the alleged irregularities came to light, some affected persons submitted a written complaint to Teliamura Block Development Officer Biplab Acharya.
Speaking to reporters, BDO Biplab Acharya said that the matter was brought to the notice of the district administration after receiving the complaint. He added that further legal and administrative action would be initiated as per the directions of the District Magistrate.
The allegation of forged government documents has raised serious concerns within administrative circles. Questions have also emerged over whether any other individuals were involved in the alleged financial irregularities and how such documents were allegedly used for such a long period without detection.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that the accused has admitted to some allegations, although no official statement has yet been issued by the investigating agency regarding the matter.
An investigation based on the complaints has now begun. If the allegations of financial fraud, forgery, and misuse of government documents are proven, strict legal action may follow.
The incident has created widespread discussion in the area, with residents demanding a fair and thorough investigation to uncover the full truth and ensure action against all those found responsible.
