Agartala, 26th March 2024 :  In a harrowing incident that unfolded in the capital’s Drop Gate area, seven individuals were left seriously injured following an ambulance accident. Tragically, amidst the chaos, the unborn child of a pregnant woman, Lipika Sutradhar, succumbed to injuries sustained during the accident.

The accident occurred around midnight on Monday when Lipika, en route from Melaghar Hospital to GB Hospital for delivery, found herself amidst a fateful turn of events. Accompanying her was another patient from Melaghar Hospital, both in need of urgent medical attention.

However, the situation took a dire turn as the ambulance driver, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, lost control of the vehicle upon reaching the Drop Gate area, resulting in the catastrophic accident.

Upon receiving distressing reports of the accident, authorities from AD Nagar police station swiftly responded, alongside firefighters, to rescue the injured victims. They were promptly transported to GB Hospital for immediate medical care.

Tragically, despite efforts to save the unborn child, medical professionals at GB Hospital declared the child deceased following Lipika Sutradhar’s critical condition post-delivery.

In the wake of this heart-wrenching incident, the family of Lipika Sutradhar has voiced concerns over the alleged negligence of the ambulance driver and has demanded justice. The driver has been apprehended by the authorities, with ongoing investigations shedding light on the circumstances leading to the accident.

Lipika’s husband, Tejendra Das, lamented the devastating loss of their child and emphasized the need for accountability, asserting that had the ambulance driver not been intoxicated, the tragedy could have been averted.

Meanwhile, questions have arisen regarding the accountability of officials from Melaghar Hospital, raising concerns about how an inebriated ambulance driver was entrusted with such a critical responsibility.
