Agartala, March 11: In a significant move towards urban development, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) presented an extensive budget of Rs 416 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25 last Wednesday. The budget, which focuses on enhancing the quality of life for the city’s residents, was discussed in detail on Monday at the AMC’s conference hall.
Mayor Dipak Majumdar, alongside ward corporators and Corporation Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Yadav, presided over the discussion. The mayor emphasized that the budget aims to transform Agartala into a traffic-free, clean city with efficient drainage and lighting systems, and improved citizen services.
The AMC’s budgetary vision includes the beautification of Agartala, establishment of open gyms, and renovation of amusement parks. The budget was unanimously adopted, reflecting a collective commitment to the city’s progress.
Since the BJP-led government’s inception in Tripura in 2018, the AMC has been instrumental in driving the city’s renovation with government support. The mayor highlighted the all-encompassing nature of the budget, which addresses critical issues such as drinking water supply, with plans to resolve them within the next nine months.
In response to the perennial waterlogging issues, the AMC has decided to install three modern pumps to alleviate flood-related challenges. Additionally, the construction of a modern coffee house at Shishu Udyan is underway, aiming for an immediate launch.
The financial blueprint for the year also includes plans to elevate Agartala among the top 100 smart cities by fostering a modern and scientific urban environment. The approved expenditure for this fiscal year stands at Rs 416 crore 74 lakh, with an estimated income of Rs 19 crore 51 lakh and an expenditure of Rs 19 crore 73 lakh, resulting in a deficit of Rs 76 lakh 75 thousand. The AMC is set to bridge this gap through its own revenue streams.
In a bid to modernize the city’s infrastructure, the GB market has been cleared for redevelopment. The AMC has laid out plans for a comprehensive overhaul of the market, along with modernization initiatives for Border Gol Chakkar Bazar and Durga Chowmuhani Bazar, marking a new era of urban transformation for Agartala.
