Agartala, 11th June 2025 : Udaipur witnessed fresh unrest following the arrest of Bagma Mandal leader Ajit Poddar in connection with the violent incidents that occurred in Rajnagar on Eid on June 7 last. The arrest made by Radha Kishore Pur police station this afternoon triggered protests’ as party leaders and workers surrounded the police station demanding Poddar’s release.
The turmoil stems from an attack on several Muslim households in Rajnagar during Eid celebrations. Reports indicate that anti-social elements physically assaulted an auto-rickshaw driver, vandalized homes and buried a sacrificial cattle in a pit. The situation has remained tense in Udaipur for days.
Following the incident, Rajnehar Bibi, a resident of Rajnagar filed a complaint at Radha Kishore Pur police station alleging that Ajit Poddar, Nayan Das, Babul Chakraborty and others attacked her and damaged her property. Additionally, Billal Mia, the auto-rickshaw driver, lodged a separate complaint regarding the assault.
In response, police detained Ajit Poddar and presented him before the court and later released in bail. His arrest sparked protests with several youths surrounding the police station in defiance.
Upon learning of the escalating situation, Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nirman Das accompanied by a large police force rushed to the scene to restore order. Officials have confirmed that the situation is now under control.
