Amra Bangali protest over alleged mistreatment of refugees from Bangladesh

Agartala, 22nd June 2025:Members of the socio-political organisation ‘Amra Bangali’ staged a protest today in front of their state office here voicing concerns over the alleged mistreatment of Bengali refugees from Bangladesh. The protestors condemned what they described as racial discrimination and the forceful repatriation of Bengali individuals alongside Chakma refugees.

State Secretary of ‘Amra Bangali’, Gouranga Rudra Pal addressed the gathering and spoke to the media, asserting that Bengalis, who he described as the “sons of India” and “embodiments of freedom,” were being unjustly targeted. He claimed that minorities from Bangladesh seeking refuge in India were being subjected to harsh treatment, particularly in Tripura.

“People fleeing persecution in Bangladesh are being punished for entering Indian territory. While legal procedures may apply, stripping their backs or treating them inhumanely is unacceptable,” Pal said.

He alleged that Tripura stood out as a state where such actions were being racially justified, which he denounced as contrary to India’s secular and democratic ethos. “India is a secular nation, and it is our responsibility to uphold that spirit against divisive forces,” he added.

Pal also warned that silence from the state government would be seen as tacit support for these discriminatory practices. He urged the government to take strict action against those responsible for fostering such divisions, especially naming elements allegedly linked to the ‘Motha’.

Calling for broader unity, he appealed to citizens to stand together in the coming days against racism and discrimination. “The movement must be organized and sustained,” he concluded.
