Agartala, 27th June 2026: The 5th State Conference of the Tripura Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union was held on Saturday at the CITU State Centre, where delegates raised demands for strengthening the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme and protecting the rights of Anganwadi workers and helpers.
The conference began with the hoisting of the CITU red flag by leader Jaya Barman and the All India ICDS Federation flag by Union President Tripti Das at the CITU office premises. Leaders also paid floral tribute at the martyrs’ memorial before the formal proceedings commenced at the CITU hall.
The conference was presided over by a presidium comprising Jaya Barman, Tripti Das, Nilurani Devi and Malti Tripura. CITU State President Manik Dey inaugurated the conference and addressed the gathering. Usharani, General Secretary of the All India Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Federation, attended as the chief guest, while CITU State Committee General Secretary Shankar Datta delivered the keynote address.
During the conference, State Secretary Kajolrani Sarkar presented the political and organisational report on behalf of the Union’s state committee. Representatives from 22 subdivisions participated in discussions on the report and highlighted several issues concerning Anganwadi workers and the future of ICDS.
The delegates demanded scrapping of the FRS system, introduction of gratuity benefits, regularisation of Anganwadi workers’ and helpers’ services, withdrawal of the National Education Policy and implementation of non-formal education programmes.
A total of 135 delegates from 22 subdivisions attended the conference. Three resolutions were adopted during the event on various organisational and policy-related demands.
A new 57-member state committee and a 15-member secretariat were unanimously formed at the conference. Soma Chakraborty was elected as the new President of the state committee, while Tripti Das was elected as the Secretary.
The conference concluded with a call to “Save the Children” and “Save ICDS”, stressing the need to protect the child development programme and ensure better recognition and benefits for Anganwadi workers and helpers.
