Agartala, 28th November 2023: The leader of the opposition, Animesh Debbarma, has called on the government to promptly announce a financial package for the rehabilitation of the affected traders in Battala Bazar. Today, Animesh Debbarma, the opposition leader, visited the Battala Bazar area that was ravaged by a devastating fire on Sunday night. During his visit, he engaged with the business owners who suffered losses due to the fire. It is worth noting that a severe fire broke out in the capital’s Battala market late on Sunday night, resulting in the destruction of 140 to 150 shops.
A day after the incident, on Tuesday, Animesh Debbarma visited the affected Battala market again, where he interacted with the affected traders, including members of the market committee. The opposition leader pledged to support the affected traders and expressed condolences. Speaking to reporters, he described the Battala market fire as unimaginable, emphasizing the substantial losses incurred by the traders who were unable to salvage anything. Debbarma urged the government to promptly announce a financial package for the rehabilitation of the affected traders. Additionally, he called for the scientific reconstruction of the Battala market.
He stated that if the financial package is not announced before the upcoming assembly session, he will raise the issue during the session. In addition to advocating for the modernization of Battala Bazar, Animesh Debbarma also demanded the renovation of Maharaja Bir Bikram Bahadur’s cremation ghat. During his visit, MLA Swapna Debbarma and other officials accompanied the leader of the opposition party.
