Agartala, 4th May 2026: Police have detained Akhtar Hossain (29) of Bordowal in connection with the ongoing fake currency racket in Sonamura.
The arrest follows the March 27 incident at the 7 Heaven shopping mall near Sonamura Bridge Chowmuni, where police apprehended Amir Hossain and seized sixteen counterfeit Rs 500 notes. Investigators now allege Akhtar Hossain’s involvement in the same case.
Sonamura Police Station OC Tapas Das confirmed that the accused has been produced before court with a request for five days’ police remand.
Significantly, Akhtar Hossain is a serving member of the ruling party at Bordowal Gram Panchayat.
