Agartala, 9th March 2025: Miscreants set fire to the family agar garden of Jubarajnagar MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath. The arson attack took place in the Nayapasha area of Paschim Tilthai village, where the MLA resides. The garden is spanning approximately two acres and housing over 500 agar trees, was completely destroyed in the blaze yesterday afternoon. The estimated damage is reported to be around Rs 25 lakh.
The CPIM has alleged that BJP-affiliated miscreants were behind the attack, citing political vendetta as the motive. This is not the first time the MLA’s family has faced such economic attacks; their rubber garden was similarly destroyed following the 2023 assembly elections.
Upon learning of the incident, CPIM state secretary Amitabh Datta along with MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath, local leaders and members visited the site to assess the damage. Among those present were Zahar Uddin, a leader of the All India Krishak Sabha; DYFI Uptakhali anchal committee president Sufur Uddin; Mangalkhali gram panchayat vice-president Sonafar Ali; and the MLA’s younger brother Tinku Nath. Agricultural university student Amritabha Datta also joined the delegation.
During their visit, the leaders strongly condemned the attack and demanded immediate action against the perpetrators. They accused the BJP of orchestrating the arson to divert attention from widespread allegations of corruption within the party. “BJP corruption is dominating headlines across the state,” one leader remarked, referencing controversies such as recruitment scandals at Tripura Central University, financial exploitation at Tripura Medical College, and embezzlement by individuals posing as fake police officers.
The CPIM leaders praised MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath for his unwavering commitment to the people of his constituency, despite facing repeated adversities. “His courage and dedication to development work have made him a target of political vendetta,” they stated.
