Agartala, 6th August 2025 : ASHA workers in the Kailashahar subdivision have raised serious concerns over non-payment of their monthly allowances for the past three months. A group of workers submitted a deputation to Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shirshendu Chakma today demanding immediate disbursement of their dues and fulfillment of long-standing promises.
The deputation was led by ASHA representatives Piyali Chakraborty, Shilpi Dev, Manju Dev, Jhuma Das, and others. Speaking after the meeting, Piyali Chakraborty said, “Our monthly allowance has not been paid for three consecutive months. We demand that the outstanding dues be cleared immediately and that payments be made regularly every month.”
She further emphasized the need for the state government to honor its commitment of ₹1,000 monthly allowance, along with pending incentives. “The 33 percent and 100 percent incentives, additional Covid-period remuneration, and payments for distributing smart cards and Ava cards must be settled without delay,” Chakraborty added.
The workers also reiterated their demand for regularization of services and a fixed monthly salary of Rs 18,000, as promised during the election campaign. “We have placed five key demands before the Chief Health Officer. If our salaries are not paid by next Monday, we will launch a larger agitation in Kailashahar,” warned another ASHA worker.
Responding to the deputation, Dr. Shirshendu Chakma assured the workers that their salaries would be disbursed by August 11 next. “I will also forward the remaining demands to the higher authorities for consideration,” he said.
ASHA workers noted that this was not their first attempt to seek redress. “Before approaching the Chief Health Officer, we had submitted deputations to other officials in the department, but our issues remain unresolved,” said one of the protestors.
