Agartala, 26th June 2024: Assam Rifles on the occasion of “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” organised a mass rally at Agartala on Wednesday.
The Aim of the rally was to raise awareness about Drug abuse in the State and to strengthen cooperation among different agencies including the NGOs to achieve a drug free society in Tripura. The Rally was flagged off by Mrs Manjula Rana, Zonal President, ARWWA.
It is worth mentioning here that Drug abuse in Tripura has become a pressing concern over recent years. A recent survey indicates, 562 cases registered and 760 drug peddlers arrested in multiple operations in the state in the last one year. Narcotic substances worth ₹263 crore were also seized over the year. Tripura stands second in the northeast region in terms of the seizure of drugs and has the highest record of destruction of narcotic items.
This growing epidemic has prompted urgent action from various sectors, including the Assam Rifles, which has played a pivotal role in addressing the drugs menace in the state by launching their War on Drugs campaign.
A total of 350 members participated in the rally which includes Assam rifles personnel, local Civilians, school children and Teachers.
