Assembly to hold one-day session on Women’s Reservation Bill: Ratan Lal Nath

Date:

Agartala, 27th April 2026:   A one-day session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly will be held on April 30 to discuss further strengthening and safeguarding the constitutional rights of Indian women, along with renewed efforts to amend the Constitution through the 131st Amendment Bill, Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.

This was stated by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath after a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting held today.

The Minister said the Assembly session has been convened by Speaker Rampada Jamatia following a petition submitted by 17 members, including Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy. The petition, submitted as a Notice of Motion, aims to build consensus among all parliamentary political parties across the country and urges the Central Government to take immediate steps to initiate the delimitation process based on the 2011 Census.

It also calls for renewed efforts to amend the Constitution under the 131st Amendment Bill (Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam) to ensure one-third reservation of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.

“With this matter, 17 members of the Assembly wrote to the Speaker, which led to the convening of the session on April 30. Considering the importance of the issue, the Speaker called for this session. The Business Advisory Committee meeting was held today in preparation,” the Minister said.

He further informed that obituary references will be made for former Minister Kartik Kannya Debbarma, who passed away recently, and for renowned singer Asha Bhosle.

“After the obituary references, the BAC report will be presented, followed by discussions on the main agenda. Members from all political parties, including CPIM and Congress, will participate. After adopting the motion, we aim to appeal to all political parties, through the Central Government, to raise and pass this matter again. This is a very important issue,” he added.
