Agartala, 6th December 2023 : A young man’s attempt to smuggle cannabis while disguised in what appeared to be paramilitary uniform was thwarted at the Agartala railway station. The suspect, identified as Shravan Kumar from Bihar, was apprehended during a search operation on the Deep Kanchenjunga Express yesterday.
According to a police official at the railway station, the youth, donning a suspicious paramilitary uniform, came under scrutiny during the routine inspection. When asked to produce his paramilitary ID card, he failed to do so, prompting a thorough search. The search revealed 21 kg of dry cannabis concealed on his person.
The arrested individual, Shravan Kumar, is now facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The railway police have registered a case against him, highlighting the gravity of the attempted cannabis smuggling incident. Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the extent of the operation and any potential accomplices involved in this illegal activity.
