Lok Adalat from December 09, 16, 988 cases to be taken up across state

Agartala, 6th December 2023 :  In a significant legal initiative, Lok Adalats are set to convene across all district and sub-divisional court premises in Tripura, excluding the Tripura High Court on December 09. A total of 67 benches, including one at the Tripura High Court, will address 16,988 cases, demonstrating a commitment to swift and accessible justice.

The cases slated for disposal encompass various legal realms, comprising 5,227 pre-litigation disputes and 11,761 pending court cases. Notably, the issues range from Bank Debt Repayment and Motor Accident Compensation to Consumer Court, Arbitrable Criminal Disputes, Matrimonial Disputes, Check Bounce (NI Act), Other Civil Cases, and personnel matters.

The Tripura High Court bench alone will address 82 cases, emphasizing its integral role in the expansive resolution process. The Agartala court premises will accommodate the maximum benches, with 19 Lok Adalat sessions. Both parties involved in the cases have already received notices, and the proceedings will be assisted by help desks for the convenience of smart citizens.

In a bid to aid the public, paralegal volunteers will be available to assist individuals who have received smart notices from the court. The pre-understanding phase of Lok Adalat cases has commenced across all law enforcement authority offices since December 4, 2023, and is scheduled to continue until December 8.

Jhuma Datta Chowdhury, the Member Secretary of Tripura State Legal Services Authority, urged all concerned parties to capitalize on the opportunity for case resolution through compromise settlements in the National People’s Court, emphasizing a swift and cost-effective approach to justice.
