Agartala, 6th December 2023 : In a desperate plea for quality education, students of Nishikumar Murasingpara 12th Class School took to the streets on Wednesday, blocking roads in protest over the severe shortage of teachers in key subjects. The deadlock was only broken after assurances were given by a `DCM.
The school, located in Murasingh Para under the Shantir Bazar subdivision, has been grappling with a critical shortage of teachers in three vital subjects: English, Education, and History. The situation reached a boiling point as frustrated students locked the school premises, demanding immediate action to address the staffing crisis.
The predicament dates back to 2018 when the school lost its history teacher, followed by the English teacher in 2023, and the education teacher in 2020. Shockingly, no replacements were appointed, leaving a significant void in the faculty.
Presently accommodating 232 students, the school has struggled to maintain a standard of education in the absence of qualified instructors in these essential subjects. The students, weary of the persistent hardships in their studies, resorted to a drastic measure to draw attention to their predicament.
On receiving news of the road blockade, a District Commissioner promptly arrived at the scene to engage with the students. After providing assurances regarding the swift resolution of the teacher recruitment issue, the students lifted the blockade, allowing normal traffic flow to resume.
The incident underscores the urgent need for educational authorities to address staffing gaps in schools, ensuring that students receive the quality education they deserve. As the community awaits a sustainable solution, the spotlight remains on the authorities to fulfill their commitment to education in Nishikumar Murasingpara 12th Class School.
