Bangladeshi Detainee Attempts Escape from GB Hospital, Quickly Recaptured

Date:

Agartala, 9th April 2026:   A dramatic incident unfolded at GB Hospital on Thursday when a Bangladeshi national in police custody attempted to escape while undergoing medical treatment. Prompt action by on-duty police personnel led to his swift recapture, preventing any major security breach.

The detainee, identified as Sajal Rishi Das, is reportedly a resident of Brahmanbaria district in Bangladesh. He had been arrested earlier on charges of illegally crossing the India–Bangladesh border and was lodged in Bishalgarh Central Correctional Facility.

According to officials, Das was brought to GB Hospital after falling ill. During treatment, he allegedly took advantage of a lapse in attention and tried to flee the premises. However, alert police officers immediately intervened and managed to apprehend him within a short time.

The incident has raised concerns regarding security arrangements and monitoring protocols for foreign nationals held on charges of illegal border crossing. Questions are being asked about how the detainee managed to attempt an escape despite being under custody.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances that enabled the escape attempt and whether there was any negligence in security. Further details are awaited as the inquiry progresses.
